Form!

Form is defined many different definitions. It is a term that holds several meanings. We can say it is the external appearance of a clearly defined area or a specific condition in which something reveals. Either definition would be correct but when referencing form to space and order the following properties would be further explored.

Point, Line, Plane, Volume...

There are several principles and elements in design. These elements and principles are used as building blocks for any work of art. Any piece of art or work that is well designed incorporates a few, if not all of these elements.


Point, line, plane and volume are among the primary elements. These four serve as the catalyst to a properly designed space. The below images are used to further break down the fundamentals for each element.

Point
Indicates a position in space.



Based on what we see here, in prospective, each line, plane and object can be traced back to a point somewhere in space. Each line here is visibly reseeding back to the point highlighted below. Points are used to define a space.

Line
A representation of length, direction and position





The lines in the above image shows length, depth and direction. Each element in the space that forms a line provides a barrier for the thing it amasses. it defines the area, which in this case would be the windows, ceiling and floor. Lines can also be found in the shapes that define the furniture.



A line is used here to further highlight the element of line.









Plane

Used to depict length, width, shape, surface, orientation and position.



Plane Defines the interior and exterior space. Planes have shape or contour and are usually in 2D. They can be solid or implied, curvilinear or angled.


The space below is full of planar elements. The space is surrounded bu glass and windows, which defines the interior and exterior space. The openness gives the space light and aids in the aesthetics of the decor.






Volume Shows length, width and depth. It represents the form and space as well as surface, orientation and even position.




Volume is seen as 3 dimensional in space and is either contained by wall, floor and ceiling planes. The main identifying characteristics of volume is form.The shapes and interrelationships of the planes describe the boundaries of volume.

Personal Design Philosophy

I believe my Interior Design Philosophy is to build every project from conceptual to installation based off the principles and elements of balance, space, form, and color. To have the ability to reinvent the norm and effortlessly take things that may not seem conventional, and create a well designed and functional space. Using all the elements from the environment to form a unique space. Also, to be inspired daily by the beauty and love the universe and the people in it exude, and to take that inspiration and use it in all aspects of the design process. Each individual on this earth, plays a major part in the environment. By taking a piece of inspiration from individuals and the land I will be able to incorporate the element into my designs with a sense freedom.
